Vigorous, Tiarella 'Appalachian Trail' (Foam Flower) is a spreading herbaceous perennial forming a mat of heart-shaped, fresh green leaves adorned with deep burgundy variegation along the veins. In mid to late spring, short wands of white flowers are borne above the foliage. Unlike many Tiarella selections, this variety has a trailing habit, making it particularly useful as a groundcover for shady, moist areas. Good for hanging baskets too. Evergreen in mild winter climates.

  • Grows up to 4-6 in. tall (10-15 cm) and 36 in. wide (90 cm).
  • Performs best in cool, moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade or full shade. Protect from excessive winter wet.
  • A pretty addition to beds and borders, woodland gardens, cottage gardens or rock gardens. Great as a groundcover, for edging or underplanting shrubs and roses.
  • Generally pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs and powdery mildews. Deer resistant.
  • Propagate by division in spring.
