Lysimachia ciliata (Fringed Loosestrife)

Lysimachia ciliata (Fringed Loosestrife) is an erect to sprawling perennial forming a mound of opposite, lance-shaped, green leaves, 3-6 in. long (7-15 cm). Blooming for 6 weeks in early summer to early fall, the plant is studded with nodding, star-shaped butter-yellow flowers, 1 in. across (2.5cm). Borne singly or in twos in the upper leaf axils, the blossoms often have a raspberry blotch at the base of each petal. Native to most of North America, Fringed Loosestrife occurs naturally in moist to wet deciduous woodlands, swamps, soggy thickets, wet prairies, marshes, seeps, and borders of streams. Easy to grow, Fringed Loosestrife spreads by underground rhizomes and self-seeding. A fine hardy plant that is useful for its late flowers and is often grown in wet sites, bogs or along streams and ponds.

• Grows 18-30 in. tall (45-75 cm) and 24-36 in. wide (60-90 cm). 
• Performs best in full sun or light shade, in humus-rich, loamy, acidic to neutral, moist to wet soils. Tolerates seasonal flooding.
• A perfect plant for cottage gardens, wild gardens, bog gardens, rain gardens or next to ponds and streams. Excellent as long-lasting cut flowers.
• Fringed Loosestrife is generally not subject to serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails.
• Cut back after flowering.
• Propagate by seed or root division in spring or autumn.
