Rich with a powerful clove scent, Lonicera × americana (American Woodbine) is a superb deciduous climber with whorls of tubular flowers, 2 in. long (5 cm), that open white before turning creamy-yellow with a flush of red, pink, or purple. Produced in succession from late spring to the first frost, the fragrant flowers eventually give way to red berries.
