Noted for its radiant, bright golden foliage and its abundant blooms of large, magenta-pink cup-shaped flowers with black star-shaped centers all summer long, award-winning Geranium 'Anne Thomson' (Cranesbill) forms a low-spreading mound that brightens the garden with its dazzling color combination. Resembling 'Ann Folkard' (they share the same parentage), this hardy geranium is however more compact and heat tolerant than its golden-leafed rival.
- Putting on a great show from late spring to early fall, this hardy geranium is reliable, easy to grow, and provides long-lasting color. Vigorous, it is a well-behaved weaver which provides a bold presence in the garden. Geranium 'Anne Thomson' is a hybrid of Geranium procurrens and Geranium psilostemon.
- This deciduous spreading perennial grows in a creeping mound up to 8-12 in. tall (20-30 cm), spreads up to 2-3 ft. (60-90 cm), and requires very little maintenance!
- Won the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
- Performs best in full sun or light shade, in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. This plant is not fussy about soils provided they are well-drained. Attractive to butterflies, but deer and rabbit resistant!
- A perfect border plant, it is a spectacular addition to beds, borders, groundcover, cottage gardens, city gardens, and underplanting roses and shrubs.
- This Geranium is generally not subject to serious pest or disease issues. Watch for vine weevil, sawflies, slugs and snails and powdery mildew
- Remove flowered stems and old leaves to encourage the production of fresh leaves and flowers. Propagate by division in spring or by basal cuttings in early to mid-spring and root with bottom heat
