Mentha requienii (Corsican Mint)

Mentha requienii, also known as Corsican Mint, is a low-growing, mint-scented perennial that forms a dense ground cover of tiny emerald green leaves. Native to the Mediterranean region, it produces tiny tubular lilac flowers in short spikes in summer. This vigorous, mat-forming Mint has a mossy appearance and can be used as a filler between steppingstone. It tolerates limited foot traffic, though. Corsican Mint is also a popular choice for use in rock gardens and as an edging plant. Evergreen in mild winter climates, Corsican Mint has a strong, fresh, minty aroma and a slightly sweet taste, making it an ideal ingredient for crème de menthe.

Growing Corsican Mint

• Grows up to 1-3 in. tall (2-7 cm) and 6-12 in. wide (15-30 cm).
• Performs best in rich, moist soils in full sun or partial shade. It is best grown in partial shade in hot climates to prevent stress and leaf scorching.
• Regular watering during the growing season will help to promote healthy growth and prevent stress. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.
• It is a vigorous grower that will spread all over the place and may grow beyond its intended planting area, so it is important to be aware of its growth habit and monitor its spread.
• Corsican Mint is extremely easy to grow and relatively low maintenance.
• No serious pest or disease issues. Check out for leafhoppers, caterpillars, powdery mildew, or mint rust.
• Cut back after flowering.
