Malus Adams (Crabapple)

One of the finest red-flowering crabapples, Malus 'Adams' is an upright, broad-rounded deciduous tree with a long season of interest. Opening from red buds, masses of fragrant, deep pink single flowers appear in mid-spring. Draped in clusters along the branches, they provide a spectacular spring floral display. The pretty blossoms are followed by abundant glossy, red fruits, 1/2 in. (1.2 cm), with blood-red pulp. They mature in fall and persist into winter. Emerging with reddish tints in spring, the pointy leaves become dark green in the summer, before turning beautiful orange-red shades in the fall. Highly rated for disease resistance, this flowering crabapple is a reliable performer that is exciting throughout the year.

• A full sun lover, this tree is easily grown in moderately fertile, well-drained soils. Once established, it is drought tolerant.
