Eucalyptus deglupta (Rainbow Gum)
Fast-growing, Eucalyptus deglupta (Rainbow Gum) is a large evergreen tree noted for its incredibly colorful bark. Smooth, its orange bark peels in summer to reveal multicolor streaks of blue, purple, orange and maroon. Young trees have a conical crown with a leader and almost horizontal branches. As the tree matures, the branches curve up and the leader becomes less prominent – hence forming a spreading, flat topped crown. The foliage of lance-shaped leaves, up to 6 in. long (15 cm), is aromatic when crushed. Umbels of small white flowers bloom at various times during the year depending on locality. Eucalyptus deglupta is the only Eucalyptus species found naturally in the Northern Hemisphere. This Eucalyptus is a major plantation tree for pulp production. It is also widely planted as an ornamental tree because of its attractive bark. Excellent shade tree that requires ample growing space.

- No serious pest or disease issue. Deer resistant.
