The crown is densely clothed in rich glossy green leaves with paler undersides, up to 4 in. long (10cm), turning yellow in the fall. In late spring to early summer, small, fragrant creamy-white flowers are borne in drooping cymes. Rich in nectar, they are highly attractive to bees. The blossoms are followed by showy nutlets that ripen in late summer. This species tends to sucker from the base, producing shoots that need to be removed. Caucasian Linden is a hybrid between T. cordata and T. dasystyla. A handsome shade, street, or lawn tree.

  • Grows up to 40-60 ft. tall (12-18 m) and 20-30 ft. wide (6-9 m).
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained loams.
  • Keep an eye out for aphids, horse chestnut scales, caterpillars, sawflies, gall mites, and phytophthora root diseases.
  • Propagation is not easy but to propagate by seed, sow stratified in containers outdoors in spring. Chip budding is the most appropriate method, although care must be taken with the choice of rootstock.
