Syringa pubescens subsp. patula Miss Kim (Lilac)

A low maintenance plant with excellent resistance to powdery mildew, Syringa pubescens subsp. patula ‘Miss Kim’ is a charming lilac which provides interest over three seasons of the year. In late spring, it gets covered with abundant, sweetly fragrant, lavender to ice blue flowers which open from rich purple buds. It also provides good fall color with its dark green foliage turning attractive burgundy shades in the fall. A slow grower, this lilac is ideal for small gardens.

  • With an upright, compact, somewhat rounded habit, this deciduous shrub is much smaller than the Common or French Lilac (Syringa Vulgaris) and grows up to 6-8 ft. tall and wide (180-240 cm). Blooming slightly later than the French Lilacs, its flower clusters are smaller but still incredibly fragrant.
  • A full sun lover, this plant is best grown in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Does well in chalk but dislikes acidic soils.
  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society and winner of the Cary Award, which recognizes plants that are particularly adequate for New England, offer superior landscape appeal, are winter hardy and pest resistant.
  • No serious insect or disease problems
  • Flowers attract butterflies and birds
  • Plant as a specimen or in mixed shrub borders for dramatic spring blooms. Use it in the perennial border to add structure to a bed. A great flowering shrub that is perfect for hedges too.
