Sisyrinchium striatum (Pale Yellow-Eyed Grass)
Native to Argentina and Chile, Sisyrinchium striatum (Pale Yellow-Eyed Grass) is a semi-evergreen perennial that forms tufts of long, upright, sword-shaped, gray green leaves. In late spring or early summer, multiple spikes of small, pale yellow flowers with golden centers and delicate purple stripes rise above the foliage before being followed by black seed pods.

Each blossom opens for just one day with the morning sun and closes at dusk.
- Grows in clumps up to 1-2 ft. tall (30-60 cm) and 10-12 in. wide (25-30 cm). Naturalizes easily and will spread over time (by creeping rootstocks) to form large clumps.
- Easily grown in poor to moderately fertile, dry to medium, neutral to slightly alkaline, well-drained soils in full sun or light shade. Drought tolerance once established.
- Stunning in beds and borders and perfect for gravel gardens, cottage gardens or city gardens. Best in groups or massed!
- Virtually pest free. Watch for root rot
- Propagate by division in spring. Protect from excessive winter wet. Lift and divide every year or so to ensure flowering
- Promptly remove spent flowers to avoid undesired self-seeding
