Extremely hardy, award-winning Rosa Westerland is a vigorous shrub of upright habit with small clusters of deliciously scented, cupped, ruffled, double flowers (30 petals) in the most attractive shades of bright copper-orange and apricot. Rich with a strong spicy fragrance, the large and showy blooms, 5 in. across (12 cm), stand out against the shiny foliage of dark green leaves.

  • Grows up to 6-12 ft. tall (180-360 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm).
  • Best grown in full sun, in rich, moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. For best flowering apply a balanced fertilizer and mulch in late winter or early spring and a balanced fertilizer again in early summer.
  • Great for cut flowers, beds and borders, and pillars.
  • Can be lightly pruned in the late fall or early winter to protect from winter wind damage. Major pruning to develop the shape of the plant should be done in early spring when the leaves are beginning to show green.
  • Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer
  • Bred by Reimer Kordes (1922-1997) (Germany, 1969).
