  • Winner of many prestigious awards, including the Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society. Voted into the Rose Hall of Fame by the World Federation of Rose Societies in 1976 and later as the Rose of the 20th Century.
  • Grows up to 4-7 ft. tall (120-210 cm) with a 2-3 ft. spread (60-90 cm).
  • An excellent choice for beds, borders, flowering hedges, or containers. Stunning when mass-planted. Excellent cut flowers.
  • Best grown in full sun, in rich, fertile with adequate moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerant of poor soil.
  • Propagate by hardwood cuttings in autumn or by chip budding in summer.
  • Bred by Francis Meilland (France, 1935) under the original cultivar name of 'Madame A. Meilland'. Shortly before Germany invaded France in 1939, Francis Meilland sent budwood of this rose to rose growers in several countries to insure this new rose would not be destroyed by the war. In the U. S., budwood was sent to Conard-Pyle Company who proceeded to propagate the rose, and then subsequently introduced the rose into commerce under the cultivar name of 'Peace' on April 29, 1945 (VE Day) which was the same day that Berlin fell to Allied forces.
