Hymenocallis

Resembling daffodils, Hymenocallis (Spider Lily) are bulbous perennials, sometimes evergreen, sporting intensely fragrant, white, cream or yellow flowers and long, strap-shaped leaves. Borne on thick flower stems, the blossoms are adorned with a central cup surrounded by narrow, spreading tepals and projecting stamens. Blooming in mid to late summer, Spider Lilies are native to the southern US and South America. They are excellent flower bulbs for moist soils and can be grown at the edge of ponds, as they do well in boggy growing conditions.
