Blooming from mid-spring to early summer, the eye-catching blossoms are borne atop tall and stiff unbranched stems. They are held above a foliage clump of bristly, pinnate basal leaves. This plant goes dormant after flowering, but the leaves return in the fall and persist throughout winter. Papaver bracteatum is closely related to the commonly cultivated oriental poppy, Papaver orientale. Add this sturdy, hardy perennial poppy anywhere you want a bright color splash with little maintenance.
