Tricyrtis hirta Miyazaki Hybrids (Toad Lily)

Tricyrtis hirta 'Miyazaki Hybrids' (Toad Lily) is a shade-loving perennial with short, gracefully arching, hairy stems clad with lance-shaped green leaves arranged in a ladder-like fashion. Blooming from late summer to fall, clusters of large, orchid-like, white flowers heavily sprinkled with purple freckles appear all along the stems. Quite showy, they are borne in the leaf axils along the entire stem, creating a more impressive floral display than on other species. 'Miyazaki Hybrids' is regarded as a top performer in the 2001 Chicago Botanic Plant Evaluation study as a result of its superior floral display, robust habit, winter hardiness and disease resistance. An excellent perennial for adding late season color to the shade garden. Use it as an accent plant, container plant or ground cover in a woodland garden.
