Saxifraga paniculata (Lifelong Saxifrage)

Extremely hardy and long-lived, Saxifraga paniculata (Lifelong Saxifrage) is an evergreen perennial producing a slowly spreading mat of incurved rosettes, 3 in. across (8 cm), of spatulate leaves with forward-pointing teeth and silvery encrustations on the margins. The foliage varies from yellow-green, to cheerful green to darker mid-green. In late spring to early summer, each rosette sends up a single flowering stalk, 12 in. high (30 cm), containing multiple cup-shaped flowers. Flower color is variable, ranging from white to creamy white to pink to yellow sometimes with purple spotting. Easy to grow, Lifelong Saxifrage is not prone to disease, flowers well and its evergreen rosettes are beautifully enhanced by winter frosts. Exceedingly handsome, it is a wonderful subject for rock gardens and pots.

• Grows up to 6-12 in. tall (15-30 cm) and 8 in. wide (20 cm).
• Best in partial shade in moderately fertile, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soils. Best with protection from hot afternoon sun.
