Bred By David Austin, Sophy's Rose is a very accommodating English Rose, enjoying both hot and cold climates. Reliable, this delightful beauty produces large (5 in. wide or 12 cm), fully double rosette-shaped flowers (80 petals) of a luminous red that changes to a strong pink in full sunlight. It repeats flowers well and emits a light tea fragrance. An extremely healthy variety with a compact growth that makes it ideal for bedding, container planting, or as a hedge.

  • Blooming in flushes from late spring until frost, this is an excellent repeat bloomer.
  • Grows up to 3 feet tall (90 cm) and spreads 2.5 feet wide (75 cm) and will stay short in hot climates. Upright in habit and bushy, this medium size shrub has an elongated foliage, giving the overall impression of airy lightness.
  • It makes a good flowering hedge and is an excellent choice for beds and borders or even containers. Spectacular when combined with the cool blue colors of salvia, nepeta, or lavender.
  • Best grown in full sun or partial shade in rich, fertile, well-drained soils with adequate moisture.
  • This lovely rose was named after Sophy, daughter of Wendy Fisher, who founded the charity now known as Dyslexia Action.
  • David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
