Rosa Princess Alexandra of Kent (English Rose)

Repeat-flowering, Rosa Princess Alexandra of Kent is an irresistible English Old Rose Hybrid with unusually large, fully petalled (about 130 petals) and deeply cupped flowers of warm, glowing pink. The ring of soft pink outer petals, enclosing the warm pink inner petals, creates a most pleasing effect.

Despite their size, they are held nicely on a healthy, well-rounded shrub. Delightfully and strongly fragrant, with a fresh Tea fragrance that changes to lemon as the flower ages – eventually taking on additional hints of blackcurrants. Bred by David Austin, this charming beauty was introduced in 2007.

  • Blooming in flushes from late spring until frost, this is an excellent repeat bloomer.
  • Grows up to 3.5 feet tall (105 cm) and spreads 3 feet wide (90 cm). An excellent choice for beds and borders. Spectacular when combined with the cool blue colors of salvia, nepeta, or lavender.
  • Plant it where you will be able to enjoy its perfume daily: near a doorway, along a path, near your patio or deck. Excellent cut flowers.
  • Best grown in full sun, in rich, fertile with adequate moisture, well-drained soils.
  • Excellent disease resistance.
  • This lovely rose was named after Princess Alexandra, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II who is a keen gardener and great lover of roses.
  • David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
