Rosa Ambridge Rose (English Rose)

Bred by David Austin in 1990, Rosa Ambridge Rose is still very popular today for various reasons. First, it is particularly beautiful with its fully double, nicely cupped, blooms that open to form a loose rosette formation. Elegantly held above the healthy, medium green foliage, its medium-sized blooms (3.5 in; 9 cm) exhibit a pure apricot color on the inner petals that is gradually paling to pale apricot/pink on the outside of the petals.

Second, this lovely rose is rich with a powerful and outstanding myrrh fragrance, which is overwhelming when planted as a group of no less than three plants. Finally, this small shrub rose blooms continually throughout the season and creates a spectacular, floral display.

  • Featuring a bushy, upright habit, this ravishing small shrub is an excellent repeat bloomer whose striking beauty allows it to be treated as a specimen plant in the landscape.
  • It is also a superb addition to beds and borders or containers. Spectacular when combined with the cool blue colors of salvia, nepeta, or lavender. Plant it where you will be able to enjoy its perfume daily: near a doorway, along a path, near your patio or deck. Excellent cut flowers.
  • Blooming from late spring until frost, it flowers freely and continuously, providing a charming display.
  • Grows up to 3 feet tall (90 cm) and spreads 2 feet (60 cm). Ideal for small gardens!
  • Best grown in full sun or partial shade, in rich, fertile with adequate moisture, well-drained soils.
  • Excellent resistance to disease.
  • Summer pruning will help to maintain the height and encourage quicker repeat flowering.
  • David Austin’s English Roses combine the flower forms and perfume of Old Roses with the color range and repeat-flowering habits of modern roses. As a Rose breeder, David Austin’s achievement is in marrying the romantic “English Rose” look with reliable garden performance, vigorous growth, full bushes, disease resistance, and prolific season-long bloom. Over 200 English Roses have been released since 1961, many of them receiving the highest rewards.
