Potentilla atrosanguinea (Dark Crimson Cinquefoil) is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial boasting showy, ruby red, 5-petaled flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), adorned with a dark center from early to late summer. The blossoms are borne in open sprays on wiry stems. They contrast nicely against the foliage mound of three-lobed leaves covered in silky hairs. Noted for its long blooming season, this Cinquefoil is one of the easiest plants to care for. It is perfect for adding color to a sunny border.

  • Grows up to 18-30 in. tall (45-75 cm) and 12-24 in. wide (30-60 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates drought once established.
  • Virtually pest and disease free, it is also deer resistant.
  • Cinquefoil is very adaptable and an excellent choice for beds and borders, banks and slopes, cottage gardens, or coastal gardens.
  • After flowering, remove the flower stems at ground level.
  • Can be propagated by division in spring.
  • Native to the Himalayas.
