Tigridia – Tiger Flowers
Commonly called Mexican Shell Flower or Tiger Flower, Tigridia is a treasure of the mid-late summer garden. Its large flared flowers are vividly colored and come in two-tone combinations pairing white, pink, red, orchid, yellow or orange with contrasting center spots. Each flower lasts for a day, but the flowering period usually lasts for several weeks. Plant in spring after the weather warms up. The bulbs can be left in the ground where hardy or dug up in fall for storing in a dry frost-free place.
