Salix – Willows
Fast-growing and easy to grow, Salix (Willows) are deciduous shrubs and trees of diverse habit, ranging from small creeping alpines to huge stately trees. Ornamental specimen trees in large or small gardens, the dwarf and ground-hugging alpine varieties deserve a spot in the rock garden, while the weeping willows are charming near ponds and streams. The shrubby willows are valued for their vivid stems in the winter that range from copper red to bright yellow, others for their foliage or showy fuzzy catkins in the spring.
