Lobelia

Lobelia is a genus of flowering plants comprising 415 species of small to large annuals, perennial herbs, and shrubs. Their long flowering period, ease of cultivation, and striking flowers have made many Lobelia species popular garden subjects. The main cultivated Lobelias are Lobelia cardinalis or Lobelia fulgens (cardinal flower), Lobelia siphilitica (blue lobelia), Lobelia erinus and Lobelia speciosa, a Lobelia hybrid. Enjoying moist locations, these plants make great additions to borders, along streams or ponds, as ground covers, in containers, or in hanging baskets. They are magnets for hummingbirds, butterflies, and swallowtails.
