Liquidambar – Sweet Gums
Liquidambar (Sweet Gum) are deciduous trees grown for their maple-like leaves which turn brilliant shades of orange, crimson and purple in the fall. After dropping to the ground, the attractive branching pattern, furrowed bark and corky wings on twigs are revealed, providing winter interest – as do the hanging clusters of hard, spherical, bristly gum balls. Good-looking all year, Liquidambar make superb shade trees or specimen trees.
