Leucadendron – Conebushes

Native to South Africa, Leucadendron are small evergreen trees and shrubs prized for their spectacular, cone-like clusters of flowers surrounded by large, leaf-like, often colorful bracts. Male and female flowers are carried on separate plants and are both needed to produce fruiting cones. The genus includes about 80 species, most provide excellent winter color in gardens. The flower stems are great in fresh and dried arrangements too.
