Ilex / Hollies
Ilex (Holly) is a vast genus of more than 400 species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees. Grown for their handsome foliage, usually spiny and glossy, and their colorful berries, hollies are generally trouble free and easy to grow. They are ideal for woodland gardens, as specimens, as hedges, or in rock gardens, depending on the species. Almost all holly species are dioecious, therefore you will need to plant both males and females if you desire fruit.
