Enkianthus

Quietly elegant, Enkianthus are deciduous shrubs with simple, alternate leaves often with spectacular fall color and attractive clusters of nodding, bell-shaped flowers in spring or summer. Depending on varieties, the foliage can be almost shiny bright green, as in Enkianthus perulatus (White Enkianthus), or dull deep jade as in Enkianthus campanulatus (Redvein Enkianthus) – before turning incredible yellows to brilliant reds in the fall. Flowers appear in late spring or early summer in delicately nodding racemes in shades ranging from pure white to creamy yellow to deep crimson. Enkianthus is a genus of 8 to 10 species, primarily from the Himalayas, across Asia to Japan and Korea.
