Abutilon

Abutilon (Flowering Maples) can be evergreen or deciduous shrubs, small trees, perennials or annuals, bearing profuse and showy, lantern-like flowers from spring to frost (often year-round in frost free areas). They dangle like porcelain earrings from long stalks from the gracefully arching branches and contrast nicely against the handsome foliage of maple-like leaves. Hummingbirds feast on them. Easy to grow, they are terrific additions to borders or decorative containers. They work well in hanging baskets, where it is easier to see the downward facing flowers. Grow Flowering Maples in full sun or partial shade, in almost any type of soil as long as it is well-drained and evenly moist.
