Pinus bungeana (Lacebark Pine)

Noted for its very distinctive mottled bark, Pinus bungeana (Lacebark Pine) is a slow-growing evergreen conifer of pyramidal habit when young, often multi-stemmed, becoming flat-topped and rounded over time. Incredibly beautiful, its smooth gray-green bark flakes away to reveal a rich patchwork of creamy-white, red, purple, brown and green. It eventually becomes silvery white at maturity.

The lush foliage of lustrous, rich green, stiff, sharp-pointed needles, 2-4 in. long (5-10 cm), is borne in bundles of three and persists for 2-4 years on the tree. The oval, yellow-brown, spiny seed-bearing cones appear terminally or laterally on the stems at the end of very short stalks. Picturesque, Lacebark Pine is a specimen accent plant of great beauty. Place it where it can be admired throughout the year.
