Prized for its incredible fragrance, award-winning Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile' is a compact medium-sized deciduous shrub of great beauty when in bloom. In late spring to early summer, its elegantly arching branches bear a profusion of large, highly-scented, single white flowers, 2 in. across (5 cm), adorned with a purple blotch at their centers. The blossoms stand out against the foliage of oval, dark green leaves. Introduced in the late 1800s by French plant hybridizer Pierre Lemoine, 'Belle Etoile' is still very popular today thanks to its better fragrance, longer flowering period and more compact habit than most other Philadelphus varieties. A lovely flowering shrub that deserves a spot where its fragrance can be enjoyed.
