Lilium formosanum var. pricei (Dwarf Formosa Lily)

Noted for its petite size, Lilium formosanum var. pricei (Dwarf Formosa Lily) is a charming bulbous perennial with very fragrant, glistening white, trumpet-shaped flowers adorned with red wine streaks on the outside and a golden throat. Blooming in mid-summer to early fall, the blossoms are huge, up to 8 in. (20 cm long).

Blooming in mid-summer to early fall, the blossoms are huge, up to 8 in. (20 cm long). They are borne on upright stems with narrow, dark green leaves. Easy to grow, Dwarf Formosa Lily is a native of Formosa where it is found growing among the bamboos in volcanic, sandstone soils. It is ideal for the rock garden or at the front of a perennial border. Plant it near a patio and enjoy its wonderful fragrance! Excellent fresh-cut flowers.

  • Grows up to 12-24 in. tall (30-60 cm) and 6-12 in. wide (15-30 cm). Will reseed and increase from offsets in the garden.
  • Performs best in full sun or light shade in moist, acid, well-drained soil.
  • A charming lily for beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or containers.
  • Keep an eye out for lily beetle, aphids, slugs, vine weevil, and gray mold.
  • Toxic to cats (though not for dogs or any known species)
  • Propagate by seed, sown, when ripe, in containers in a cold frame or separate offsets after the foliage dies down.
  • This lily is a member of the Species and cultivars of species Division (IX) which includes all species and their subspecies, varieties, forms, and cultivars selected therefrom (excluding those derived from formosanum, longiflorum, philippinense, and wallichianum). There are 9 different types of lilies classified by the Royal Horticultural Society. And they are all real eye-catchers!
