Lagerstroemia Berry Dazzle® (Crape Myrtle) is a dwarf, rounded, deciduous shrub with abundant clusters of crinkly, brilliant fuchsia-pink flowers at its branch tips all summer long. They emerge amidst the glossy foliage of reddish-green leaves, which provides interest in spring before the blooming season begins. The leaves turn darker red in fall before dropping – revealing the gray and tan bark of the winter stems. The petite stature of this crape myrtle makes it ideal for small gardens and containers on your balcony or patio. Resistant to powder mildew.
- Grows up to 3-4 ft. tall and wide (90-120 cm).
- A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought and heat tolerant. Water regularly until established. To help crape myrtles retain water, mulch with organic matter 2-3 in. deep (5-7 cm). Use a liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season.
- Good disease and pest resistance. Crape myrtles are not usually browsed by deer.
- Perfect as a specimen plant, for foundation plantings, or containers.
- During the growing season, clip off spent flowers to promote a second, lighter bloom.
- Crape myrtles bloom on new wood and should be pruned in winter or early spring. Remove dead branches any time.
