Beloved for its bright, colorful flowers, award-winning Kalanchoe blossfeldiana (Flaming Kathy) is a bushy evergreen succulent with thick, shiny, dark green leaves with scalloped edges. It is mostly grown for its large umbels of flower clusters held above the foliage.

It is mostly grown for its large umbels of flower clusters held above the foliage. The dainty blooms come in soft pastel colors and in brilliant shades of red, orange, pink or yellow. This Kalanchoe flowers every 6 months or so and keeps its blooms 6 weeks or more. Although Flaming Kathy is typically used as a houseplant, it can be grown outdoors if protected from the frost.

  • Grows with an upright, multi-branched habit to 6-18 in. tall and wide (15-45 cm).
  • Easily grown in light, sandy, well-drained soils in sun to moderate shade. Afternoon shade is welcomed in hot summer climates. Needing very little water, this plant only needs one light application of fertilizer each year. Drought tolerant and moderately salt tolerant.
  • Protect from slugs and snails which permanently disfigure the leaves.
  • Excellent for beds and borders, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens. Perfect for containers where spectacular floral arrangements can be created.
  • Keep the old blossoms pinched off to encourage repeat bloom.
