Hosta Stiletto (Plantain Lily)

Hosta ‘Stiletto’ (Plantain Lily) is a compact perennial forming a low, cascading mound of lance-shaped, rippled, satiny, dark olive green leaves adorned with narrow creamy-white margins. Slightly arching, the thin leaves are prominently veined. Bell-shaped, purple-striped flowers appear in summer, rising on scapes 25 in. long (62 cm).

Fast-growing, 'Stiletto' is ideal as an edging plant along a pathway, as a groundcover, and makes a lovely subject in rock gardens.

  • Grows up to 12 in. high (30 cm) and 32 in. wide (80 cm).
  • Full sun to part shade lover, it is best grown in rich, moist, well-drained soils. Site in good light to moderate shade all day.
  • Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or containers. Great for edging, as a groundcover, or underplanting shrubs and roses.
  • Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
  • Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
  • Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
  • Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
