Hosta Rainforest Sunrise (Plantain Lily)

Small and attractive, Hosta 'Rainforest Sunrise' (Plantain Lily) forms a compact mound of widely oval, prominently veined, chartreuse to yellow leaves, widely margined bright dark green. The contrast between the bright center and the dark green margins is particularly lovely as it resembles a hand painted pattern. Thick and glossy, the leaves hold up well all season, and are also slug resistant. Pale lavender flowers appear in midsummer, rising on scapes 24 in. long (60 cm). A pretty sport of Hosta 'Maui Buttercups' that is perfect for small gardens and containers.

• Forms a foliage mound up to 8 in. high (20 cm) and 16 in. wide (40 cm).
• Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or containers. Great as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
• Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
• Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
