Hosta Cool as a Cucumber (Plantain Lily)

A particularly showy addition to the shade garden, Hosta 'Cool as a Cucumber' (Plantain Lily) is a medium-sized hosta variety with stunning variegated foliage. It forms a luminous, cascading to arching mound of long, tapered, pointed, near white leaves with attractive bright green margins. Dainty, funnel-shaped white flowers appear in early summer, rising on scapes 40 in. tall (100 cm). 'Cool as a Cucumber' makes a cheerful subject for plantings in the garden or mixed containers.

• Grows up to 28 in. tall (70 cm) and 48 in. wide (120 cm).
• Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or containers.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
• Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
