Hosta Blueberry Muffin (Plantain Lily)

One of the best large blue hostas, Hosta 'Blueberry Muffin' (Plantain Lily) is a medium-sized perennial forming an attractive mound of large, thick, rounded blue leaves, that are puckered in unusual patterns. The petioles are speckled with mauve which creates a nice contrast with the blue leaves. Late in the season, the foliage transitions to green. Racemes of lavender flowers appear just above the foliage in early summer. Moderately fast-growing, this blue hosta is a reliable performer in the landscape.

• Grows 14 in. tall (35 cm) and 36 in. wide (90 cm).
• Performs best in part shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.`
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, containers, as a groundcover or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
