Hosta Amazone (Plantain Lily)

Hosta 'Amazone' (Plantain Lily) is a medium-sized, clump-forming perennial forming a neat and compact mound of heart-shaped, creamy-white leaves, 6 in. long (15 cm), with dark green margins that flame inward, contrasting boldly with the bright white center. Racemes of pale lavender flowers appear above the foliage in mid to late summer. This variegated plantain lily is reported to be more sun tolerant than other white centered hosta varieties. An ideal choice for growing in a container on the patio or in the perennial border.

• Grows up to 20 in. tall (50 cm) and 26 in. wide (65 cm).
• Performs best in part shade to full shade in fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds.
• Perfect for the shade garden, mixed with other perennials in bed and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or containers. Great for edging or underplanting shrubs and roses.
• Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage.
• Cut off the stems after blooming to encourage the plant's growth. Discolored leaves should be trimmed back to the ground.
• Propagate by division in early spring or late summer.
• Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
