Ideal for small gardens, Deutzia gracilis 'Nikko' is considered one of the best Deutzia cultivars thanks to its great horticultural merits. This dwarf, dense, rounded, flowering shrub features gracefully arching branches that get covered with abundant clusters of tiny brilliant white flowers in late spring to early summer for 10-14 days. Forming a ground-covering spreading mound, its fine-textured, lance-shaped, bright green leaves turn an attractive burgundy shade in the fall.

  • Compact, with a low growing habit, this deciduous shrub typically grows 1-2 ft. tall (30-60 cm) with a spread of 2-5 ft. (60-150 cm).
  • A full sun to light shade lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, rich soils. To get the best floral display, give your Deutzia as much sunshine as possible and abundant moisture. Light afternoon shade is welcomed in areas with high temperatures.
  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society and winner of the Gold Medal Award of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
  • No serious insect or disease problems aside from some susceptibility to leaf spots.
  • Deer resistantsalt tolerantclay soil tolerant!
  • Great choice for edging taller shrub borders with dramatic spring blooms. Perfect for rock gardens, coastal gardens, at the front of borders, cascading over a wall, planted in masses as ground covers, on slopes (great at holding soils), or in containers.
  • Propagate by softwood cuttings in summer
