Cotoneaster salicifolius (Willow Leaf Cotoneaster)

Cotoneaster salicifolius (Willow Leaf Cotoneaster) is a vigorous, evergreen shrub with gracefully arching branches clothed in lance-shaped, glossy, leathery, dark green leaves, 4 in. long (10 cm). The leaves usually persist through winter and may blush to a pretty red if the weather becomes unusually cold. In late spring to early summer, the branches are studded with flat-topped clusters of white flowers, 2 in. across (5 cm).

Attractive to bees, they are followed by a heavy crop of brilliant red berries which provide one of the most cheering sights in the garden. They persist in the winter, extending the season of interest of the plant. Easy to grow, Willow Leaf Cotoneaster can be planted in a shrub border for winter foliage and fruit effect. This is also a graceful screening or background plant.
