Grabbing attention, they attract butterflies and other pollinators. The foliage of large, oval leaves, 12 in. long (30 cm), is dark green above with fuzzy bronze-green undersides. It is unpleasantly scented when crushed. Fast-growing, Rose Glory Bower is a pretty addition to the late-season garden when few other flowering shrubs offer color. Evergreen in mild winter areas.
- Grows up to 3-6 ft. tall and wide (90-180 cm). Will form a spreading colony by suckering if not controlled.
- Easily grown in organically rich, fertile, moist, but well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Best in full sun, but appreciates some light afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Drought tolerant once established.
- Great in shrub borders, city gardens, coastal gardens, and cottage gardens.
- Virtually disease-free and pest-free. Deer resistant.
- Pinch back throughout the growing season to make a compact shrub. Where winter hardy, plants will spread aggressively by root suckers which should be regularly pruned out. It has a clear potential for escaping from cultivation and becoming invasive.
- Propagate by seed at 55-64°F (13-18°C) in spring. Propagate by suckers in autumn or spring. Alternatively, propagate by taking semi-ripe cuttings with bottom heat in summer. Root cuttings can be taken in winter.
- Native to China, northern India.
