Cistus salviifolius Prostratus (Sageleaf Rockrose)

Cistus salviifolius ‘Prostratus’ (Sageleaf Rockrose) is a low spreading evergreen shrub with profuse snow-white flowers, 1.5 in. across (3.5 cm), adorned with golden-yellow stamens at their heart and a yellow spot at the base of their petals. Although each flower lasts only for a day, this vigorous shrub provides a succession of flowers for weeks from late spring to early summer.

The blossoms are borne atop a dense mound of wrinkled, gray-green leaves resembling sage leaves, hence the common name. This plant is excellent for sloped areas or as ground cover for rough situations. 

  • Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall (30-60 cm) and 6-8 ft. wide (180-240 cm).
  • Easily grown in well-drained soils in full sun. Excellent evergreen shrub for gardens that get no watering. Will grow in poor soils and tolerate coastal conditions.
