Aloe hereroensis (Sand Aloe)
Aloe hereroensis (Sand Aloe) is an evergreen succulent perennial forming single erect rosettes, or a small clump or rosettes of smooth, pale blue-green leaves that curve inwards and are often rose-colored or bronzed in the sun. The leaves are adorned with H-shaped whitish spots arranged in transverse bands on the lower surface.
Aloe hereroensis (Sand Aloe) is an evergreen succulent perennial forming single erect rosettes, or a small clump or rosettes of smooth, pale blue-green leaves that curve inwards and are often rose-colored or bronzed in the sun. The leaves are adorned with H-shaped whitish spots arranged in transverse bands on the lower surface. Their margins are lined with small, sharp, red-brown spines. This Aloe produces flattened, branched racemes, wider than long, of usually scarlet to deep red flowers, rarely orange or yellow. Up to three branched inflorescences can arise from a single rosette. This plant makes a dramatic focal point in sunny borders or decorative containers.
- Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall and wide (30-60 cm).
- Easily grown in alkaline, well-drained soils in full sun. Irrigate carefully so not to overwater.
- Great for beds and borders, rock gardens, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens. Ideal as an accent plant in sunny borders or in decorative containers.
- Deer resistant. The flowers produce nectar and are attractive to birds and bees
- Virtually disease free. Watch for scale insects and mealybugs.
