The fleshy, gracefully curving leaves are a rainbow of colors ranging from green to a rich coppery red, depending on sun and water. In late fall to early winter, spikes of bright orange-red flowers are borne in profusion above the foliage, brightening up the garden. This Aloe provides a colorful focal point in the xeriscape. It is easily propagated from cuttings.
- Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall (30-60 cm) and 2-4 ft. wide (60-120 cm).
- Easily grown in sandy or gravelly, well-drained soils in full sun or light shade. Irrigate only occasionally to enhance the copper coloration of the foliage, which will remain green if overwatered. Drought tolerant.
- Great for beds and borders, rock gardens, succulent gardens or Mediterranean gardens.
- Deer resistant. The flowers produce nectar and are attractive to birds and bees
- Propagate by seed sown with heat as soon as ripe or from offsets
- Virtually disease free. Watch for scale insects and mealybugs.
