In late summer to early fall, it bears fascinating, pendulous, bowl-shaped flowers, 5 in. across (12 cm), with dark crimson tepals and a ring of purple and white striped coronal filaments.

The showy fragrant blossoms are followed by egg-size yellow to orange, edible fruits that can grow to 4-5 in. long (10-12 cm). Fragrant Granadilla is cultivated in Brazil where its fruits are highly prized. The foliage consists of large, three-lobed, ovate, dark green leaves and remains attractive all year around.
