Nerine sarniensis (Guernsey Lily)

Sparkling in the late season garden, Nerine sarniensis (Guernsey Lily) is a bulbous perennial bearing large umbels of trumpet-shaped, scarlet flowers, adorned with wavy-edged petals and elegantly protruding stamens. It is sometimes referred to as Jewel, or Diamond Lilies, because the petals are covered with an iridescent sheen that makes the flowers sparkle as if they have been sprinkled with gold or silver dust.

It is sometimes referred to as Jewel, or Diamond Lilies, because the petals are covered with an iridescent sheen that makes the flowers sparkle as if they have been sprinkled with gold or silver dust. Blooming for several weeks in late summer or early fall, the exotic-looking blossoms rise atop tall, stout stems, before the foliage of strap-shaped rich green leaves emerges. Guernsey Lilies are ideal accent plants for mixed borders, rockeries or containers. They are exquisite for bouquets too!
