A lovely Deutzia hybrid, award-winning Deutzia x hybrida 'Magicien' is a dense, upright, bushy shrub with elegantly spreading, arching stems and particularly attractive sprays of star-shaped pink and white flowers, 1 in. wide (2.5cm) across. Abundant, they appear in late spring to early summer and cover the shrub for about two weeks. The foliage of lanceolate, bright green leaves turns somewhat burgundy in fall. 'Magicien' results from the cross of Deutzia longifolia and Deutzia discolor.

  • Multi-stemmed and rapid-growing, this deciduous shrub typically grows 4-6 ft. tall and wide (120-180 cm).
  • A full sun to light shade lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils but prefers moist, rich soils. To get the best floral display, give your Deutzia as much sunshine as possible and abundant moisture. Light afternoon shade is welcomed in areas with high temperatures.
  • Winner of the Gold Medal Award of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
  • No serious insect or disease problems
  • Deer resistant
  • Great choice for mixed shrub borders with dramatic spring blooms. Perfect for slopes, woodland gardens, cottage gardens, or as informal hedges.
  • Prune in spring immediately after flowering. Propagate by softwood or hardwood cuttings
