Catalpa

Catalpa are deciduous trees of spreading habit, with huge heart-shaped leaves, showy clusters of orchid-like flowers and persistent seedpods (resembling long cigars) that dangle in profusion from the stems. Easy to grow, they tolerate all sorts of growing conditions: heat, cold, wet soils, dry soils, sun and shade. Fast-growing, they serve as ornamental shade or street trees.
