Rhododendron Ginny Gee
Incredibly free-flowering, Rhododendron 'Ginny Gee' is a semi-dwarf evergreen shrub of great popularity. Blooming in mid-spring, it displays a profusion of small, trumpet-shaped, ruffled white flowers, about 1 in. across (2.5 cm), with delicate pink mottling at their edges. Held in terminal clusters of multiple bright rose-pink buds, each with 3-5 flowers, the elegant blooms gradually fade to light pink or white as they mature. They are so abundant that they cover the full shrub. The small evergreen leaves are elliptic, dark matte green, and take some red shades in winter. Compact, with a very dense growth habit, 'Ginny Gee' is easy to grow and tough as it can stand temperatures as low as -10°F (-23°C). It is also sun, heat, and drought tolerant.
- Grows with an upright, spreading habit, up to 12-18 in. tall (30-45 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm)
- Winner of multiple awards, including the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society as well as the Rhododendron of the Year Award of the American Rhododendron Society for the North West, North East, and South West Regions.
- A sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in moist, acidic, humusy, well-drained soils. Plant shallowly. Protect from frost to prevent damage to flowers. Mulch annually with leaf mold to retain moisture, control weeds, and cool the soil.
- Perfect for beds and borders, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. Ideal for small gardens and containers!
- Removing spent flowers promotes new growth
- This shrub should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers.
- All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.
