Tulipa urumiensis (Botanical Tulip)
Award-winning Tulipa urumiensis (Iran Tulip) is a beautiful little bulbous perennial boasting 1 or 2 star-shaped, yellow flowers, 2-3 in. across (5-7 cm), adorned with pointed petals and flushed with brown outside. Blooming in early spring, the blossoms open out flat in the sun. They are held on short stems above the foliage of spreading, folded, glaucous leaves. A perfect little beautiful tulip with lots of vigor.

- Growing up to 4-8 in. tall (10-25 cm), this tulip naturalizes easily and will come back year after year.
- Performs best in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with shelter from strong winds and protection from excessive wet.
- Easy to grow, this tulip is a welcomed addition to beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or patio containers. For best visual impact, plant in groups (at least 15 bulbs).

- Propagate by lifting and separating offsets.
- Keep an eye out for slugs, tulip fire, and bulb rot.
- Allow the foliage to die back on its own. Remove the flower heads after blooming (or the seed pods if they develop): this will allow the energy to go to the bulb for next year's flowers.
- All parts may cause severe discomfort following ingestion and may cause an allergic skin reaction. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
- Native to central Asia, growing in rocky subalpine meadows in the Tian Shan.
